We have met the most severe critic and he is us - to paraphrase Pogo.

I was much reassured by Ansel Adams saying that if he got one really good
shot a year, he was pleased. No one shoots an endless string of
masterpieces. In fact top commercial shooters will go through dozens of
rolls just to get a single ad shot that does the job.

I always try to shoot the very best shot I can under the given set of
cirumstances. It may not be a masterpiece, but it is the very best I can do.
I can live with that. Perhaps too, like becoming blasé to our surroundings,
we also become overly familiar with our own work.

Long dark days to that to a lot of people. In Anchorage, the sun did not
clear the mountains until almost noon in mid-winter. By 2:30 pm it was
getting dusk again. Made on feel like joining the bears and hibernating.
