I've watched the strike zone evolve and contrary to what you quoted an umpire
saying, it hasn't been the same over the last 25 years. The definition has
been the same but the implementation hasn't. I can still remember when they
called the strike at the pits and now, it's a damn ball. Hell, 3 inches above
the belt is a damn ball for some umps. Stats Inc. actually tracks the umps
and has a hitters and pitchers list that they publish in their books. There
is a significant difference between the two groups.
