              REPORT OF THE NRA NOMINATING COMMITTEE
     Service on the NRA Nominating Committee is an honor, but it
is also a serious responsibility.  The Committee has an
obligation and a duty to select those candidates who are the most
dedicated, best qualified, and have the expertise and time to
serve the needs of the NRA members.
     The Committee members set aside friendships and personal
relationships with all candidates.  They placed considerable
weight on protection of the Second Amendment; leadership
abilities; business expertise; legislative and financial
experience; and the understanding of the importance and need for
NRA s wide range of safety, training and shooting programs.
     The Nominating Committee process is designed as a thorough
screening to determine the most qualified candidates to be
recommended to NRA voting members for consideration for election
to the NRA Board of Directors.  The Committee made every effort
to select the best possible candidates for nomination.
     The Nominating Committee met at NRA Headquarters September
26, 27 and 28, 1997 to review the qualifications of 108
individuals who were recommended for consideration by the NRA
membership.  The Committee spent over 29 hours reviewing the
qualifications, abilities, expertise, past performance and
potential capabilities of each individual.  Every resume was
reviewed, and every prospective candidate was given full
consideration before the final decision was made.
     From the 108 individuals considered, 31 candidates were
selected for your consideration and vote using a deliberative and
professional process conducted by the Nominating Committee.
Voting members may vote for no more than 26 candidates of those
listed on the ballot.  The 31 candidates listed below are
considered by the NRA Nominating Committee to be the best
qualified to serve on your NRA Board of Directors.
