I asked my husband who grew up in Florida and he doesnt recall anything
being ¨done to the oranges at all. Me, I remember trees in backyards with
them and ¨they were ripe when solid or near solid 'orange'. Once picked,
they do not ¨change.
Banannas now are another story. Those are normally picked 'green' and
ripened ¨on the way to the store either naturally, or with a gas (I
misrecall the fgas ¨but it wasnt anything horrible, maybe CO2).
Grapefruit also are a bit different and come in many types. Some of them
you ¨want to pick when they are still a bit 'green looking' for best
flavor. I dont ¨think they change much after picking as far as the color
goes.
