Hi,

had a nice one the other day.

Machine uptime was few days, had like 100+ processes going on. The machine
had bunch of schedule tasks and is working few things over night, and has
few timers which are gathering some data from network every few minutes.

Now, tried to copy some data from the network share and got kicked with
error stating there is insufficient system resources to do so. Ok, tried
few tricks, got access denied, disk space too low, etc. - colorful error
msgs :)

Fired up eventlog, found nice little, already known, error SRV stating
paged pool depleted - kewl, now we know why we cannot copy. Restarted
lanmanserver and all dependencies (firstly check current copy and open
files actions) service, tried again - nothing.

Ok, if lanmanserver I do not need to get to the network files, I'll need
lanmanworkstation, Kewl, lets restart this service!

... and then ...

f** told me timeout on service stopping, now, it is in "stopping"
state, cannot shut it down, cannot kill it, I can suck!, kewl, tried to
kill lanmanworkstations objects, openfiles, dlls, handles, etc. from
svchost.exe in which it is nested, but got stale/halt Windows state and the
only solution was Click! :)

P.S. did not try catching the machine from network!

Now, anyone found in this kind of situation ? any idea for possible
resolution without restart ? Any special clear me pagedpool out. Working
set should not get into the paged pool way ? Anything ? sick for
information :)

+ could not kill svchost.exe. Everytime got information that f** is dead,
still, not usre now if there are any "critical" windows services
running underneth it.

tnx on any info,

bye,

M.
