Hiya;
My name is Elaine, and I am an addict!
I cannot even go into a store that sells birds...too dangerous.
We already have 4 Budgies, a Cockatiel, and a Timneh Grey; but I was
weak and let my addiction take hold of me again. I went into Todd
Marcus last Sunday and came out with a cute little Green-Cheeked Conure.
He is the cutest little thing (hatch date: 9-26-86). We will be keeping
him/her separated from the others for about 6 weeks even though he got a
clean bill of health from our avian vet. I am writing this note because
I was hoping someone could give me some advice on this type of bird.
This little guy has a BIG personality and is very charming and really
seems to want to be with humans a lot. We are trying not to spoil it
too much. The problem I have run into is that he is a little nippy. Is
this something that we can work with to teach him not to bite? He isn't
mean or anything...he just likes to take a little nip of anything around
him (including ears, shoulders, arms, hairs on arms, freckles, moles,
clothing, and almost anything else he can.) Does anyone know if it is
possible to modify this behavior in Green-Cheeked Conures? We have given
him many and varied "chewing" materials in his cage and I do realize
that he uses his strong little beak to help himself get around, but it
seems to me that our 8-month old Grey was much quicker at learning not
to nip.
Thanks for any ideas, suggestions, or thoughts.
Peace and Blessings,
Elaine Tlush
