JANE KELLEY was thinking about Re: Ritalin and keyed into cyberspace:
JK>KA>JK> MP>JK>IF....there is any merit in the theory that this is
JK>KA>connected to food
JK>KA>JK> MP>JK>allergies, then the right diet would cost a lot less.
JK>KA>JK> How would you know?
JK>Since I have been studying the effects of diet on my behavior for
JK>over 25 years now, and have most recently downloaded an article
JK>linking all kinds of addiction to the dopamine receptors in the
JK>brain, I suspect that the quote above has been tampered with since I
JK>wrote whatever I did.
Suspect all you want. However, Jane, you wrote it. We know that you do
not read what you are replying to. Also, your downloading an article has
nothing to do with what you write. Anyone who has been around for a
while knows that you believe salescritters on the internet over medical
science.
JK>I am only too well aware of the role remedial diet can play in both
JK>mental illness and addiction......have one grandson on a food
JK>supplement that is designed to enhance the lousy neurotransmitters he
JK>was born with.
Of course, there is absolutely no scientific evidence that ingestion of
such witches potion has the slightest effect on neurotransmitter use.
Further, even if ingesting this snakeoil did cause the production of
more neurotransmitters, the problem may be that the receptors are not
working right and that no matter how much neurotransmitter get there,
there is no change in function.
You fell prey to a salescritter.
JK>Incidently, the problem lies in the pleasure/reward system in the
JK>brain, thus trying to find out what kids feel about anything is
JK>rather stupid, and allowing them free reign in the school system is
JK>insane.
Comings says just the opposite.
JK>Some kids just do not respond appropriately to certain stimuli and
JK>look for ways to "have a good time" that will get through the lousy
JK>brain chemicals they were born with. The adrenalin and insulin
JK>produced in some of the more dangerous stunts that they pull seems to
JK>satisfy some of them.
Some kids with ADHD who are not properly treated will resort to "self-
medication" in various ways.
JK>KA>As a matter of fact, nutritious whole foods are significantly
JK>KA>cheaper than the
JK>KA>processed junk that is so frequently blamed for ADD.
JK>That isn't enough. Tomatoes, wheat, and oatmeal are nutritious whole
JK>foods and I am allergic to them and more.
We were not talking about you.
JK> KA>I, by the way, am a serious case of ADHD and my mother
JK>permitted neither jun
JK>KA>food nor television in her household.
JK>And as an adult, you now have the responsibility to find out what you
JK>are allergic to before you learn the hard way.
Perhaps she is not allergic to anything? The diet-causes-ADHD concept
has been debunked more times than you get things wrong. Yes, that is an
astronomical number.
JK>Oh, I am also highly allergic to milk.
Stop kissing cows.
The Few. The Proud. The Chosen.
