Still seems strange. Hundreds of small text files is nothing. I =
often perform updates that change thousands or tens of thousands of =
files. There is no spike.

It doesn't work that way on a web server, when you open a website with
frontpage. When I edit my website I see hundreds of pages appear in =
the
queue to be reindexed because frontpage touches all the pages in a =
directory
when you view that directory.
