subject: Chess Sets

Hello George,

>LL>Maybe I should make a novelty set out of wood, with the pieces
>LL>based on characters found in children's books, such as -
>LL>
>LL>The Wizard of Oz
>LL>Alice's Adventures In Wonderland
>LL>Through the Looking-Glass
>LL>Dr. Seuss

GP>That could be interesting, then we can all see which set of characters
GP>are stronger, eh?

How about a Terminator set, based on the characters played in the
movies? Or an Alien set. I have seen a Star Wars set. And a Star
Trek set. But to date, not a Terminator or Alien set.

>LL>And then there could be adult-oriented chess sets.
>LL>Or gender-specific chess sets. Imagine a chess set
>LL>for women-only, with a dildo for a king...

GP>I have a picture of an adult set for men. . .

You do realize there are five sexes of man...

GP>I still like Battle Chess -- ever seen/played it? A computer chess game
GP>where the pieces were 3-D & whenever you take a piece you see a close-up
GP>fight scene with each piece killing the other in its own method (eg. the
GP>bishop was a wizard and used a magic fireball)

Battle Chess is a good novelty, but does tend to get old very quickly.

GP>I can use any set, even the silly plastic abstract pieces -- and WIN!!!
GP>(after all, it IS War!)

Even more fun is a version of chess where one plays to lose. It is
a lot harder than it seems, when both players are deliberately trying
to lose, the object of the game being to lose. In regards to war,
have you ever considered using the white flag principle? Think about
it. The side that surrenders often comes out way ahead. Read the
book, "The Mouse That Roared", or watch the movie of the same name,
starring Peter Sellers. :)
