Rich,

I just installed the MS Desktop Search-only version. Seems very fine in
its latest incarnation. It took about 2.5 hours to index 80G worth, two
drives, on this 3.2GHz 1G RAM machine. (Upgrades also seem to require a
full reindex - I guess they're adding things or fiddling with the format.)
I noticed no slowdown whatsoever in normal use. CPU held at about 15% on
this HT machine, and a render from DV and data-DVD burn went along
normally, with little slowdown.

The only dismaying thing so far is that all the addon "filters"
for additional filetypes seem to require the MSN toolbar as well. I wonder
whether it's worth trying them on this tray-only version?
