Subject: Worldwide UTE News
Update #1
This e-mail is in response to the overwhelming support for a
replacement for the utility news lost when Speedx quit publishing
and provide a "ute only" newsletter.
Here is the feedback, ideas, directions and volunteers so far:
1. Name: Worldwide Utility News
This "club" is free for electronic e-mail distribution to
member addresses. Rather than a "bulk" display on systems such
as Fidonet, rec.radio.shortwave, etc. it would go to e-mail
addresses. In this manner we can show "x" number of members
and perhaps continue or expand on equipment reviews, book
reviews, etc from equipment manufacturers and publishers who
would recognize us as a "club".
For those without computer access, Tim Braun, has volunteered
as "publisher". Tim has access to copy machines and a post
office located in the same block as his place of employment.
The paper editions would be provided for cost of mailing/
     copies.
In other words, membership is free and without dues.
Membership includes the electronic newsletter. A printed
newsletter can be obtained for cost of printing.
At some point, other Publishers may be needed in other
countries if demand is there. Say the UK. If someone
volunteers there, those in the UK can receive a paper edition
printed from the electronic version from a person in the UK.
This would keep costs low as opposed to mailing all copies
from one location say here in the U.S.
I suggest an executive board made up by each editor/helper,
each having an equal vote should questions arise to administer
     needs.
2. Format
From input I have received, the areas would be:
     a. International Aero
     b. Maritime
     c. Military (perhaps broken down to Air Force, Naval, Other?)
     d. Other SSB News (such as other government stations or news)
     e. Digital News & Info
     f. Logs
     g. New products, and Reviews
     h. QSL's -Received and info
Do we include CW in (d.) or (e.)?
Any other ideas or suggestions? How many pages per section per
month? Remember that some systems have a 60k mail limit! But we can also
do two parts!
I'm also open to a Beacon and/or MW section if someone wants to take
        this on...
3. Volunteers
Each area will have an editor. This person will have to have
e-mail capability so that they can send their columns here where
the newsletter will be assembled. I have the Speedx electronic
77e-mail capability so that they can send their columns here where
the newsletter will be assembled. I have the Speedx electronic
edition distribution system in place and the mail alias for sending
it out already.
Tony Orr has volunteered for the aero section.
Tim Braun has volunteered as publisher for paper distribution.
Jim Pogue has volunteered to do Navy/Coast Guard, maritime or
in a pinch the military area.
Jim Navary has volunteered for aero/maritime/or qsl's.
I can do the logs area with programs I have pretty easy and
          reviews/products.
Jason Berri is working on a site we may be able to use to store
          ute info on.
So, we need a few more volunteers. Especially for the Digital
area!
Each of these folks are fairly well known in the hobby and their
stepping forward to help is appreciated.
Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated. I am still actively
