First let me qualify myself by saying "gutters are part of how I earn my
living". They are pretty much a visual. If they are securely attached and
draining well, other than good looks that is pretty much it. Maintenance 
ould
be keeping them clear of debris and properly attached to the structure. Make
sure that the gutters are behind and under (if applicable) the drip edge
flashing. You do not want water running behind the gutters. The flashing job
done by the roofers is more critical. Gutters are mostly to prevent ground
errosion around the structure.
