| subject: | Comet Holmes again |
I finally got another look at Comet Holmes again tonight. It's been a while with a bright full moon and then clouds getting in the way. Tonight is a cold, very clear night. Mars is well up almost directly in the east - very bright and orange-looking. Orion is rising low in the southeast. Holmes is due east, very high - almost at the zenith. It's much dimmer to my eye now than it was earlier and about the same size as I remember it being before. Some reports say it is larger than the Moon now but I couldn't see that much light in binoculars. Maybe with a telescope gathering more light I might be able to see the dimmer edges and it would look bigger. I may not get a chance for a few more days though. It's supposed to start snowing tonight and continue through tomorrow. If the snow lets up and the skies stay clear, maybe I'll get out my telescope and have a look at Holmes and Mars this weekend.
