* In a message to Steve Brack on 10-16-97, SCOTT HUFFMAN said the following:
SH> SB> can't do is have you come in & say "I'm gonna make my scanner
SH> SB> receive cellular frequencies. Can you order me the sevice
SH> SB> manual?" Once I know you're planning an illegal act, I can't
SH> SB> provide any assistance to you. I have to refuse the sale.
SH>
SH> So what do ya' do when somebody comes in wanting to buy a 3.xx MHz
rystal
SH> (I'm sure as a Rat Shack employee, you've been informed about that little
SH> matter, as Rat Shack has been a popular source for "phone phreak/hackers"
SH> who buy R.S.'s tone dialers and crystals to make "red boxes"..)
It also has other uses. I couldn't refuse to sell every part
that could possibly be used illegally, or else I wouldn't be
able to sell anything. If someone asks me to order them the
parts on a list they brought in, a list headed "How to Build
your own Descrambler," I am obligated to refuse the sale. If
they tell me, in any way, that they're using these parts to do
something illegal, then my duty is to refuse the sale.
As usual, I speak for myself only, not Radio Shack.
