Hello All!

It seems that the HDD in the linux box, the primary one is now starting to
show signs of failure.

Some of you might have noticed that the server was unreachable sometime in
between 10p-7am on 12/17-12/18?

When the file system shows errors, Linux can remount it readonly.

I wooke up this AM and noticed it acing strangely, forced a reboot and fsck
went wild on startup.

This chit always happens when I am asleep or at work or having to leave for work.. :)

Thinking I had SATA drives in the box, I have a spare 500gig SATA on the
shelf I was going to clone the original primary hdd onto, using a True
Image boot disk..

Alas, the drives in the machine are EIDE.. So I have a WD 500gb EIDE on
order, should get it next week..

Forewarned is forearmed.

Until I receive the  new drive, should these errors re-manifest themselves,
the only thing I can do is reboot and let fsck do its thing.

In the meantime, I will setup a cloned copy of the setup on one of my
windows boxes in reserve.. I prefer to not keep all my eggs in one basket,
which is why the server isnt on the same machine as the primary mail hub.

When I receive the new drive, the cloning onto the new drive shouldnt take
long at all, but the server will be down when I do so.

So if in the interim you cannot connect, assume the system was down to an
re-occurence of this error or I am enacting my remedy.

I am hoping the primary drive will hold out, if it cant hold out, I will
have plan B to use.

With all this said.

The Eastern Star is not the Internet Backbone, I neither charge any fee's
for use, nor do I guarantee uptimes, all I can promise is to do my best to
run the best service I can offer, reliability or otherwise within my means
or available resources. If you cannot connect, because of this or any other
future issues, its par for the course. I dont like being down, whether its
due to power, internet, software or hardware glitches.

on that page you will see when the mail hub reported itself as online, it
uploads a text file every hour on the hour, reporting the time pertinent to
that hour as well as the current date.

The time reflected will be Eastern Time US, if the time shown in US ET is
greater than an hour old, then my system might be without power or internet
connectivity. If you confirm that I am online and cant connect to the
server, then Murphy is paying a visit. Once I install the new drive, we
should be in business.
