subject: Deep Space Nine - Some final thoughts

Well good bye to DS9. I finished it last night. I was up until almost 3:30 AM
going through the final episode and special features on Season 7 Disc 7.

The episode was 90 minutes or so. When it ran on TV it was done as two one
hour episodes and ended up on the DVD as about 90 minutes. Boy I DID forget a
lot of things like Rom becoming the Naguis and where everyone went after the
war was over.

If anything when you watch it on DVD you've GOT to watch the last episode and
the special features they almost put the cap on the story that doesn't happen
because of any made for TV movies. The "What You Leave Behind"
title is sure
fitting. And the comments from directors cast and crew are exactly as I have
said. They said that DS9 lived in the shadow of Next Generation for a number
of years and never got the audience respect that it so rightly deserved. They
said if you see it in reruns and for the second time, (which this is because it
never went to syndication), you will see how the series stands alone by itself.
I agree the whole 7 year ARC worked well and the brought the story to a
logical conclusion.

You could parallel it to what JMS did with B5. They do admit there are still
some stories left and some loose ends that could have been delved into further
but for the most part they are finished.
