Hello Reid,
I can confirm your information on VCT, Grand Banks Radio, as I've
already QSL'ed them! Here is the info from my Speedx December 1994 Utility
Notes column. If you want to send this out is okay with me (for now best
to still credit source just in case).
I would like to thank all the Speedx members who contributed to
and supported my column 'Utility Notes'. Several of us are working
on a replacement for utility info & news and an electronic newsletter
is in the works. Anyone interested in further information can drop me

Whoa...Grand Banks Radio, VCT...? That is correct! A new Sitor station
joined the KFS/WNU team from up Canada way. Then the ever alert Mike
Hardester heard the CW ID on 8414.0 and fired off several letters. Here is
56joined the KFS/WNU team from up Canada way. Then the ever alert Mike
Hardester heard the CW ID on 8414.0 and fired off several letters. Here is
what Mike says he found out:
I received a letter today from Halifax Coast Guard, where each time I
have an UNID Canadian, they hear from me and are always (usually) quick to
reply. Regarding my log of VCT, the Acting OIC replied:
"When I first read your letter, I must confess that I had never
heard of the radio callsign VCT. To satisfy my own curiosity, I went to
the Ops room and tuned in 8422 kHz myself. There was no mistaking the CW
ID as VCT. No one on duty that day knew who belonged to the callsign."
He goes on to say he contacted the Dept. of Communications and they
identified the operators: Sealink Communications, c\o General Delivery,
Torres Cove, NFLD. AOA 4AO. They are a "privately owned company providing
radio service to the shipping community." They have MF & HF radiotelephone
capabilities, but the OIC said that RTTY was not listed. So, mystery solved.
And a good piece of detective work too! Thanks Mike.
Here is their sked I copied:

I'll have to look around for their QSL letter but it confirms
what the fellow making the post on fidonet assumed; it is the same folks
that run Tors Cove/Rainbow Radio for aero LDOC traffic.
