I hate to keep harping on this subject but I'm tired of seeing inept major
league umpiring, specifically behind home plate. Watching the ALCS has been
a travesty and shame and I wish the announcers would be honest enough to
acknowledge poor umpiring. The sad fact is that they also refuse to seek
help when they either make a no-call or bad call.
I'm also getting tired of the terms "pitcher's umpire" and "hitter's
umpire". If I remember correctly, an umpire is an umpire. Home plate is
17" wide, not 27". When a catcher blatantly back hands a pitch it should
be a ball, not a strike. When the count is 3-0 and a pitch is thrown inside
or outside, it should be a ball, not a strike. And conversely if a count is
0-2 and the next pitch is across the middle of the plate it should be strike
3 and not ball one.
Its a big joke and its about time someone acknowledges this problem and not
accept it because its starting to ruin the fan's interest when it seems that
every other game is decided by a controversial and/or disputed call.
