It's been quite some time since I read it,  but Steve Ciarcia had an
article in Byte magazine a number of years back that *might* do what you
want.  I can remember that he used 0.1 or maybe 0.01 ohm resistors in
series with the loads to sense current,  but not much beyond that.  I think
there was an LM324 op amp on the hot side of things,  and the rest of it
was optoisolated,  but can't remember what all it was supposed to do.
