Yeah, that's right. What you need is one that will put a
connection at end A to each wire in turn and test (1) that the
connection appears on that wire at end B, and (2) that it does
NOT appear on any other wire.

Shorts between wires are not as common as opens or swaps, but are
just as damaging to the operation.
