okay i grabbed the current text.dat and overwrote and then i
overwrote the files in sbbs_dev.tgz in sbbs\exec

i still get that error even though those files exist in /sbbs/exec and the
dates are 09/14

root@linux:/sbbs# cd ctrl
 root@linux:/sbbs/ctrl#
/sbbs/exec/sbbs
/sbbs/exec/sbbs: error while loading shared libraries: libsbbs.so: cannot open
shared object file: No such file or directory
root@linux:/sbbs/ctrl# /sbbs/exec/jsexec update
/sbbs/exec/jsexec: error while loading shared libraries: libsbbs.so: cannot
open shared object file: No such file or directory root@linux:/sbbs/ctrl#

--------snip------
root@linux:/sbbs/exec# ls -al *.so
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 152232 Sep 14 08:31 libftpsrvr.so
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 180368 Sep 14 08:31 libmailsrvr.so
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 8180848 Sep 14 08:31 libsbbs.so
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 103344 Sep 14 08:31 libservices.so
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 152008 Sep 14 08:32 libwebsrvr.so

so this is some weird shit.
i even tried adjusting permissions after googling that shared object file error
and that didnt help.

any idea what this could be? maybe i should just backup my menus and text.dat
and start from scratch.
