Older people, like me, who grew up in less violent times (in civilian life - I
ignore wars), might simply consider guns as tools like a hammer or a saw.I know
I have difficulty understanding people who actually use guns on other human
beings. I was brought up to NEVER point a gun, loaded or unloaded, at another
person - presumably "unloaded" guns kill a lot of people. And ALWAYS to make
sure the safety was on except immediately before firing, and never to look into
the muzzle of a gun without removing the bolt (on a bolt-action) or pulling
back and locking the slide (on a semiautomatic pistol) or looking at the
cylinder (revolvers) and making sure no cartridge was in the chamber. The
finger was never to be inside the guard unless the weapon was to be fired
immediately.

People who grew up with guns, at least in the past, got these rules hammered
into them before a gun was ever placed in their hands. Nowadays, I have my
doubts whether such basics are taught anymore.

And when I read about things like "bump stocks":

I get cold chills regarding people who think such stuff is "fun" or "patriotic"
(terms used in the advertising on the Website). What kind of a person even
considers buying and using such a thing?

Cheers, Bob
