It isn't unusual to discover that you've gone on ahead. It seems that a lot
of meetings consist of folks who sort of sit in one spot and can't or won't
go further. One of the worst in my opinion is the cripple seeker, the nut
who preys on all the newest sickest scaredest of the opposite gender. I
don't know what happens but sometimes a sort of ennui settles in and
everybody just says something like: I had a great (or terrible) day today and
I'm grateful for the program because it kept me sober. I much prefer those
that discuss the hows of facing life in all its disorder and keeping ahead of
the fray. My sponsor told me that life is inseperable from conflict so I had
better learn to live among conflicts with joy. Sort of like 'we shall
overcome' and that will leave me free to look for the good stuff that often
gets burried. I find that meetings pick up and perk up if a newcomer arrives
- it is a big concern that these are becoming few and far bwetween. I guess
treatment centers are taking our place. I wonder why?
