subject: win98se updates CD

| ML> windows update is telling me that it only wants that one i just
| ML> mentioned... however, when i look at IE's about box and compare it

BR> Let it do, it's usually right

in this case, it is failing miserably unless m$ is releasing the same
update with hidden changes on a daily basis... KB837009 has been installed
here several times and it still wants to be installed each and every day by
the critical update notification utility and windows update :(

BR>> Apply in listed order, that's what update would do if you applied
| ML> listed order? newest to oldest? i've never really written them down

BR> No, no... listed is Top to Bottom

hummm... as said before, i've never really noted the order... with this
particular case at hand, i really have to wonder what would happen when
there are more than one update for an old package with the newest and
superceeding one being downloaded and applied first before any secondary
ones that should be applied before that superceeding one...

just to note, the reinstall put IE4 or 5 in place (whatever was in the
original win98se when it was released)... one of the very first updates
that windows update applied was IE6SP(latest)... this has lead to this
particular sticky wicket that i'm trying to get to the bottom of...
