subject: Trade Offer

 Hi Howard (and Eddie),
Just curious, but is there a reason both you and Eddie Downer posted
the _same_ reply to my NETMAIL messages to the both of you in FidoNet
CLASSIFIEDS, COMPUSALE _and_ FOR-SALE ?? I can understand the reply
in an open conference if you don't have NETMAIL priviledges, but the
same message in three conferences _and_ under two different names ?????
So ... I'm affording you the same courtesy to which you extended me
and am replying back in the same three conferences. In the future,
I'd suggest you save some bandwidth and reply in only one conference
 or use NETMAIL.
 Regarding your offer:

 ED> Tekram model : DC390 PCI Fast SCSI-2 controller
JA> I have _no_ confidence in Plug-n-Pray as I want the peripherals
JA> to go where I _jumper_ them. So ... I will offer $45 shipped
 JA> for this controller.
HO> Tekram is made by American Megatrends Inc., who make bios chips for
HO> many quality motherboards. Being an owner of Adaptec's and Tekram's
HO> I know that in many ways they are better than AHA 2940's.
I have no argument against Tekram, but you have to understand (in
lieu of what you claim above) they are about one third cheaper. ;-)
The Tekram DC-390 HBA _kit_ is $75 new from CompuPlus. IMHO, my
offer here was fair seeing I'd give up the warranty received on a
 new device.
JA> BTW, ask Howard if he ever got my NETMAIL as he never responded
JA> to my offer to trade a Brand new (still packaged) Maxtor EIDE
 JA> 2.1g and a 14o 640x480x256) with excellent picture for the
JA> Barracuda and the 2920 he advertized for you before.
HO> Considering that I'll be exchanging a $579.00 dollar drive of
HO> current manufacture, this offer too is unappealing. I can get
 HO> 640x 480 VGA's as warranted refurb's for $75.00 and new 2.1 Gig
 HO> IDE's locally for $189.00 myself. Total cost $254.00. I can sell
HO> the Barracuda for that, or at the least come close.
Yeah, if you could only sell that Barracuda. ;-)
I've been watching your trade offers on the Barracuda, AHA2940, DC390
and some other SCSI controllers and they haven't been consistent. This
leads me to believe you have been trying pretty hard to get rid
of these with no takers, you have a large quantity to push (auction
maybe) or there's something I'm missing. In any event, none of the
above hold favorable to you and I thought I was doing you (and, of
 course, me) a favor.
Anyway, on July 29, you offered me an Adaptec model 2940F with triple
connector internal cable and a Barracuda 2.1g for some items I
advertised which had a _minimum_ collective value of $490 (I can
itemize this if you want) on the open market. You acknowledged this
by saying "What I ask may seem like a lot ..." and yet, on August 3,
you offered John Aldrich the Tekram DC390 for $75 and the Barracuda
2.1g for $250 or both for $315. FWIW, if you would tack the $175
AHA-2940 onto your offer to John Aldrich _then_ you'd reach what you
offered me. If you included the DC390 in your original offer to
me, we would have had a deal instead of an insult.
BTW, in that offer to me, you mention the drive and controller
" ... are the TOP of the Adaptec and Seagate line ..."
For the benefit of others who don't know better, you should tell the
truth here. You know as well as I these are both _NARROW_ devices
and are _FAR_ from the top of their respective lines. This is evident
in your 7/28 and 8/1 messages to "All" where you specifically state
the 2940 you offer is "Not the wide SCSI version" and you also include
the letter "N" (Narrow) after the model number of the Barracuda.
Thanks for the opportunity but, likewise, I'll pass.
 Take Care,
 John
