I'll name a name 'Windows Defender'. Microsoft has taken Giant's working
anti-spyware and really screwed it up. The last few weeks on several of my
systems has produced error messages when trying to update or scan and I've
seen posts like the snippet below on their security spyware newsgroups

----------------------------------------------------------------

The issue with downloads being unable to be saved is one which Microsoft is
interested in learning more about, and is able to fix.

The issue of being unable to play the existing files appears to me to be
related to that first issue.

I suspect this same issue may come back to bite you even if further work is
done on Windows Defender, so if you are interested in resolving this, I
hope you will drop a note (perhaps with a copy of this post) to Mike Treit,
of Microsoft:

(remove the spaces)

He is collecting data from beta participants who see this issue.

I know this can be maddening, because I saw it on my own system, and didn't
connect it with Windows Defender for many weeks.
