GEORGE ELTING was thinking about Help! Ideas Needed. and keyed into
cyberspace:
GE>MP>GE>MP>That is the absolutely dumbest thing you ever said.
GE>MP>GE>
GE>MP>GE> Unfortunately, Mark, that is the prevailing thought process in
GE>MP>GE>many areas... Our M&O levy just failed for the 3rd time.. By
GE>MP>GE>just over 200 votes out of over 20,000... Just too many people
GE>MP>GE>think they can make changes by voting NO! ARGH!
GE>MP>I fully understand that. I was elected to our school board for a
GE>MP>three year term (1988-1991). That's why I know it is a dumb thing
GE>MP>to say.
GE>MP>Funny thing is that, if every parent gets out and votes, the
GE>MP>budget passes.
GE>
GE> True, if all the parents in a district voted and voted yes. But
GE>there are even parents that vote no on school levy to tell the
GE>district to change things... Its so frustrating... And I spend hours
GE>a week at the school helping with various things... Its still an
GE>ARGH! And I be being on the school board doesn't always help...
The critters that really irritated me when I was on the Board were those
who came down for the meeting one week before the budget vote and
complained about things that were not even in the budget.
We had a lay budget committee, open to *any* resident, that had spent
ten four hour nights going over the budget line by line. Every
department had to justify the expenditure.
Then, the do-nothings/know-nothings popped out of the woodwork and voted
against a budget so the Board would "get the message".
I really pissed that crowd off at a meeting when I said that the only
message I got was that they were terminally ignorant.
"Spouting" about schools is easy for those who have no stake in it. Most
are clueless as to what is really going on.
The Few. The Proud. The Chosen.
