MA> Hiya Reid - to my knowlege, I have seen NO reports in any of the
MA> hobby pubs (including SPEEDX, which has a wonderful utility section) of
MA> non-ham users of these modes.
Hiya Mike thanks for the reply.
This may be true as far as the pubs go. However I just received a
message from Marius who's in Germany and he has reported to me he has
heard some Pactor on Aero and other bands but can not find the logs
yet he made sometime ago. He also informs me that Clover is also being
used but he can not decode it because he has the same problem we all
have and that is no decoder for clover due to its high cost for a
clover decoder.
MA> I kinda suspect, though, that it will
MA> only be a matter of time before they are 'discovered' and used by the
MA> non-ham community (such as maritime- PACTOR would be well nigh ideal
MA> for them...). I have only seen 1 hobby level PC board for use on
 MA> Clover (I think it was made by HAL), and G-tor is - I THINK - a
MA> Kantronics available mode. Of course, PACTOR is, out of the 3 that you
MA> mentioned, the one that seems to see more and more use, at least in the
MA> ham arenas. We'll have to see .....
Actually the time is here from the info that I have! I have been
informed that Clover and Pactor have recently been approved by the FCC
and the Canadian Gov. for radio digital traffic but do not have the
specifics of the approvals yet or who may be using them and on what
freqs. The Hal board has gone more then hobby . I have info
that the US Fed. Gov. is using Clover for some CIA/FBI comms but no
specifics on this at all yet.
Hal Communications Devices is the inventor of Clover. I am going
to be meeting with Hal's President Next weekend at the Miami Ham Fest
for further information on Hal Devices. The Hal internal computer
board sends and receives both Clover, Pactor and Sitor.

 MA> See ya....73s.....Mike
Mike save your address for now unless you can send me info for
actual verifiable logs of Packet types mentioned above on commercial
bands. I am not yet in a position to just start handing out tons of
these charts. But can somehow manage to get them for those that send
me commercial verifiable logs.
However soon I believe I will be able to get these
world charts for almost all of the folks here and on the echo's who
send me reception reports from a couple of commercial stations I
should to be working with very soon now and then when we are testing
some new services I hope to implement which ALL OF US will all be able
to decode using sitor modes with your decoders if all goes well .
    Thanks for your help!
