Hi Ann
AC> I don't think I'll ever get there, but I wouldn't be disappointed. I
AC> am a writer and would dearly love to write a story about the
AC> Aborigines (sp) I have always been fascinated with them and their
AC> culture. The animals there are so different from anywhere in the
AC> world, I guess that's the reason I am so fascinated with your
AC> country, plus the beauty of it.
yes I think that your mind would be open enough to enjoy it for what it
is, rather than it being a poor imitation or whatever of back home.
These days people go from one 5 star hotel in one country, to another,
meet the same type of people, and you wonder why they come all the way
across the pacific.
It saddens me that we have too many "ugly" Australians travelling
the world, but so do other countries. I wonder how some can find their
way to the outhouse in their yard, let alone get out of their country
!
One of the complaints we get about our country side is that it is so
"boring". I feel sorry for people like that (not for nationalistic
reasons), but their eyes are so obviously not receptive, and they don't
know it! The countryside is so interesting if one keeps one's eyes and
mind open. My ex and I drove from Sydney to Darwin (2600miles), and I
found it fascinating the way the country changed over every little hill.
Your library may be able to get you some copies of the Australian
Geography magazine (a bit like the National Geographic style), so that
you can find out a little more about Australia.
I hope that you will give me some info about your place
regards
Allan
