Personally, I have no problem with product announcements.  Often it is
the only forum for programmers to hear about new developments.
I do not frequent any 'new releases' message areas here or newsgroups on
the 'net, so this suits me fine.
From the tenor of the moderator's comment, he seems to think that it may
be acceptable also.  
I guess that if you are not buried under an avalanche of complaints then
tacit approval has been given.
