Friend of mine is a cellular dealer and did a lot of work with
his customers in resolving problems and his distributor figured
he knows his way around the tech side of things so gave him the
codes and manuals to put the phone into factory test mode!  He
can enable or disable all sorts of weird things most of which are
only needed to overcome very specific problems.
He also said that entering the wrong codes can royally screw up
the phone until it is reset.
Asked my own dealer what happens if I lock my phone and foret the
lock code.  Seems the test unit for it can display the lock code!
... DOS never says "EXCELLENT command or filename"...
