You shouldn't even need an initialization string, for most TNC's. Whatever
your TNC program sends to the TNC at startup, you should program into
the terminal program to type to the TNC as an init string.
In your dialing setup, you should be able to use a control character,
and then a CR, then C whatever, CR. Should work like a dream. Minicom
(a linux terminal) works wonderfully, and it can even do ANSI and VT100
(although I wouldn't like to try it over 1200bps).
