subject: REALWORLD ACCOUNTING

WH> Can someone speak to this:
WH> 3.12 25 user network. Installed 2 years ago. No problems.
WH> Real World accounting application causing workstation
WH> lock ups. RW rep udated version promising fix. RW locks
WH> up worse than ever now. RW tech says that it is the 3.12
WH> segementing the memory and recommends shutting down the server weekly.
FR>>Does Real World have NLM's on the server? If no, the techie is
nuts. While Netware does segement memory (I don't believe there
exists an OS that doesn't), workstations don't use the server
  memory.
FR>>If he's right, reboot the server. If this cures RW for a while,
you're on the right track. If not, he's nuts.
What if "Real World accounting" uses the hex300 or hex270 ports for
storing small chunks of data? Some programmers love to find those
little places thinking no one else knows about them and
...voila!... You have a conflict from an errant pointer or
something. Just guessing. I had an ALPHA FOUR database system that
would not run on ARCNET because of that conflict. Peace.
