I'm thinking of connecting the dynamo to a small motor using a flexible
coupling. Then I'll be able to take a plot of voltage vs rpm, with and
without the capacitor.

It may have just been my imagination since I didn't actually take any
measurements, only my direct observations and we all know how really
easy it is to fool our own perceptions, just ask an audiophile!
