Yes, Ehen I started with McCracken Co SO I was the first hire they hasd that 
had completed  th KLEC basic 400 hour course.
I was somewhat surpriseed when I had to furnish not only my weapon but the 
vehicle and insurance.
Things have come a long way. I read in the local paper where the fwed grant 
came through for dash cameras. The started providing the vehicles about 10 
years ago, ysed state surplus, and now buy new
We didn't even have a common radio freq and communicated cross scanner.
I assisted Paducah PD one morning in pursuit of an "armed robbrery suspect" 
and the suspect rammed my car putting it up on 2 wheels for a block while 
numerous units followed.
I was out the car, the kids insurance covered repair costs but car never 
returned to duty. I temp used my wifes 71 chevelle with a teardrop, which  
raised an eyebrow or two. but it worked.
The kid btw was NOT the suspect, but the son of the Baptist preacher pf the 
largest Baptist Church in Paducah.
And YES, the Sheriff "requested" /suggested that I drop some of the traffic 
charges I filed with the old "I know I told you all I wouls never do this, 
but! statement.  I didn't and moved on shortly therafter.
But you are right, some love it and can't leave it
