The engines we're looking at support SysEx commands, so that shouldn't be a
problem if we do use MIDI.

Probably will be.  The first card I saw to claim DLS compatibility was the
MaxiSound Game Theater 64, but then again, I haven't seen an SB AWE64 yet.
I'm not part of the group that designed the spec, so I can't say with any
degree of confidence what it will require.
