-=> Mike Ross said to Roy J. Tellason -=> about "VEHICLE LED'S" on 08-26-03 22:41..... MR> What counts is the light intensity and the angle. Say do you remember MR> off hand how to convert Lumens to milliCandelas (mcd)? Like for MR> example these Philips 60 watt lamps are rated at 800 lumens... My books lead me to believe that there is no direct conversion without other factors coming into it. The candela is the SI unit of luminous intensity, or the intesity of light falling on the target. The lumen is the SI unit of luminous flux, or the amount of light emitted by the source. For a given amount of luminous flux, the luminous intensity will vary as the inverse sqaure of the distance, and as the inverse square of the angle of the beam. While it is probably more use to know the luminous intensity of the beam from an LED or any other directional light source, it should be stated as so many candelas at a distance of whatever. I wonder what the standard distance is in the case of LEDs... From Greg Mayman, in beautiful Adelaide, South Australia "Queen City of The South" 34:55 S 138:36 E ... How many kleptomaniacs does...
