The longest line in the "stock" English.Mad is 409 chars., Steve.  QEdit 
would be a good choice for an editor.  I believe it'll do up to 1000 
chars/line.  If you want more bells and whistles, and even longer line 
capability, check out TSE from the same folks who wrote QEdit (SemWare).  The 
version I'm using does up to 2032 chars. on a line but TSE is commercial, not 
shareware.
