JM> I'm not familiar with the "Dr. Pets" name. Were they closed down?
I think this was a horrible chain called Doktor Pets. They were in shopping
malls all over and seemed to buy all their pets from pet mills. I saw at
least two, and I think three of the stores. Staff never seemed well
informed. The bird areas were often filled with feather dander. Some stores
were cleaner than others.
I once encountered a dead budgie in the demonstration cage that they were
using to show what you got with your parakeet starter set, i.e., parakeet,
seed, small cage, etc. I told the front desk clerk that there was a dead
parakeet in their cage, and the clerk did not call anyone to check it, move
toward the cage, or even look toward it!
After one of our local stores shut down, a mall security guard told me that
he had once helped free a puppy that they'd let wander around the store
unsupervised until it got its head stuck in a vent.
The demise of Doktor pets was not mourned much at my household.
