It's a Rockwell chipset modem.  It is not upgradeable to x2 (that's USR's 
proprietary protocol) but might be upgradeable to K56Flex (Rockwell's 
proprietary protocol) with a factory visit if that is offered by it's chipset 
stuffer whomever that may have been.
