BTW in terms of proofing, I always quite liked the text > speech
proggies. There were some good locally produced ones (in Russian) but
they've probably been swallowed by some major comp by now...

Write your stuff & then listen to it. You pick up many more mistakes
esp if there is someone else in the room who is also fluent/a native
speaker.
