PN>Two questions as regards the AMT backup:
PN>Is $230 NIB about right?
.380 Double action only version? It's about right.
PN>Anybody here-abouts ever shoot one of these thingies?
I have one. Can't say I really reccommend it in it's factory state.
I've had to adjust the firing pin spring several times to get it to fire
consistantly with factory ammo. Thicker winchester primers still
occasionally misfire. The main problem is that it uses a lighter firing
pin and stiff spring to keep the gun safe in the event of an accidental
fall.
It has no firing pin block. I keep mine chambered, but I'm not worried
about an A.D., the spring is very stiff.
It's not a gun you are going to shoot a lot, but if you radius the edges,
you'll have a very small (but relatively heavy for the size) backup with
6 rounds of .380 hydrashok at your disposal. If you have big hands,
make sure you feel good with this gun before buying it.
FWIW- this is my .22 backup: Smallest chambering I'd feel safe on using
to try and stop a bad guy. Used with the realization that there is a
good probability that I'll have to follow up with contact defense.
