the package arrived on the 15th... now all i have to do is figure out what
order they are supposed to be installed in... these guys should have had a
better numbering system than they did/do :(  i've tried a few and have
gotten responses like "this fix already installed" and
"required files missing" and similar... no those are not exact
quotes but they point me to the database of applied fixes that says what is
on the machine and what is needed to be available before applying
something...

looks like i may have to go back to the dead install, recopy it, ignore any
update notices i get from the critical update notification and install
everything i have in date order... that is, after i figure out what order
that truely is since HTTP transfers do not preserve the actual filedates :(

in any case, i thank you greatly for the package... it contains probably
twice as much as the win98 corporate page does... i definitely see a
difference in the IE about box between a fully patched system and this
one... there are several patches that i do not find in your list or mine
and the blinking thing keeps wanting to download KB837009 every day! :( :(
