Nosler 10mm 170gr JHP:
Max. load of Hercules Blue Dot Powder: 9.8gr (nine point eight)
Book velocity from Hercules from a 4" barrel: 1170fps; 517 ft/lbs
Actual measured velocity from a 4" HK USP40: 1164fps; 512 ft/lbs
Ambient temperature of velocity/pressure tests: 35ø F
Expansion, measured largest by least diameter: .70" x .69"
Maximum height of recovered bullet: .38"
Weight of recovered bullet or largest item: 162gr
Estimated Penetration in 10% gelatin: 14"
While this load has a bit more report and flash than most factory ammo, it
would seem to be quite versatile load, not having quite the penetration of
the heavier factory 180gr loads, it still penetrates more than most
lightweight defense loads, and 500 ft/lbs should be enough to accomplish
most any chore you would select an autoloader for. A 98% load of this
powder should retain plenty of velocity while maintaining a substantial
safety margin for bulk loading.
Max load of Vihta Vuori N350 Powder: 7.9gr. (seven point nine)
Book vel. from VihtaVuori from a 4" barrel: 1249fps; 589 ft/lbs
Actual measured velocity from a 4" HK USP40: 1149fps, 498 ft/lbs
Ambient temperature of velocity/pressure tests: 55ø F
*** Experimental loads of VV N350 powder with Nosler's 170gr JHP:
These were started by loading the cartridges to a much longer than
standard OAL, then gradually reducing them while checking for
overpressure. No overpressure was found during this, but remember,
this is in MY gun, with ME loading, using MY equipment, and if any of
these variables are changed, I take no responsibility for the
consequences. Also, I had good reason to believe that the published
maximum load for this bullet was on the mild side, mainly due to the
bullet design that VV used to test the 170gr load, and how it differed
    from the Nosler 170gr.
    Ambient temperature of velocity/pressure tests: 70ø F
        8.0gr (eight . zero) VV N350 1158fps average 506 ft/lbs
        8.1gr (eight . one) VV N350 1184fps average 529 ft/lbs
        8.2gr (eight . two) VV N350 1196fps average 540 ft/lbs
        8.3gr (eight . three) VV N350 1201fps average 544 ft/lbs

Hornady 10mm 155gr JHP:
Est. load of Hercules Blue Dot Powder: 11.1gr (eleven point one)
Est. velocity from Hercules from a 4" barrel: 1255fps; 542 ft/lbs
Actual measured velocity from a 4" HK USP40: 1182fps; 481 ft/lbs
Ambient temperature of velocity/pressure tests: 55ø F
*** Experimental loads of Hercules Blue Dot powder with Hornady's
    155gr XTP-JHP:
These were started by loading the cartridges to a much longer than
standard OAL, then gradually reducing them while checking for
overpressure. No overpressure was found during this, but remember,
this is in MY gun, with ME loading, using MY equipment, and if any of
these variables are changed, I take no responsibility for the
consequences. Also, I had good reason to believe that the published
maximum load for this bullet was on the mild side, mainly due to the
bullet design of the Nosler 150gr JHP compared to the XTP-JHP 155gr.
    Ambient temperature of velocity/pressure tests: 55ø F
        11.3gr (eleven . three) Blue Dot: 1231fps 521 ft/lbs
        11.4gr (eleven . four) Blue Dot: 1286fps 569 ft/lbs
    Ambient temperature of velocity/pressure tests: 70ø F
        11.4gr (eleven . four) Blue Dot 1326fps 605 ft/lbs
Specific deviations for ten shot groups dropped from 31 ft/sec to the
low 20's, indicating a more consistent burn, something I noticed with
the maximum loads of Blue Dot on other bullet weights.
1286fps average load:
Expansion, measured largest by least diameter: .57" x .51"; fragmented
Maximum height of recovered bullet: .34"
Weight of recovered bullet or largest item: 139gr; 153gr recovered
Estimated Penetration in 10% gelatin: 12"

Nosler 10mm 150gr JHP:
Max load of Hercules Blue Dot Powder: 11.5gr (eleven point five)
Book velocity from Hercules from a 4" barrel: 1285fps; 550 ft/lbs
Actual measured velocity from a 4" HK USP40: 1318fps; 578 ft/lbs
Ambient temperature of velocity/pressure tests: 35ø F
Expansion, measured largest by least diameter: .57" x .51"; fragmented
Maximum height of recovered bullet: .20"
Weight of recovered bullet or largest item: 62gr; 147gr total recovered
Estimated Penetration in 10% gelatin: 7"-13"
(lead and jacket fragments at 7-9", jacket and core at 12 & 13")
