Hi Ann
AC>am a writer and would dearly love to write a story about the
Aborigines AC>(sp) I have always been fascinated with them and their
culture. The
In my experience, the people who have got closely involved with
them, and/or learned and studied their culture, usually have a very
high regard for them.
People who live near them, and don't bother to try understand them, too
often resent them, particularly those that are having trouble fitting
in.
The aborigines have some very good spokesmen coming through their ranks,
and one of them lady, Lois O'Donahue, was even touted as a
possible Governor General (officially the representative of the Queen
of England/Australia, but chosen by the government and recommended to
the Queen to accept). She did not get that position, went to a well
regarded High Court Judge. There will be a big vote in 2001 on
whether or not we will become a republic. It is expected that we will.
regards
Allan
