"The Commission calls for functional equivalence," Microsoft
lawyer Ian Forrester said, referring to the level of smoothness that
software needs to work well with Windows. "In order to achieve that,
you have to go far beyond interoperability."
So Microsoft want's to use copyrights to stop competition, well isn't that
exactly what copyrights are supposed to do, give the copyright holder a
government protected monopoly? MS are just using the laws as designed. The
problem isn't MS, the problem is current copyright laws aren't about
allowing a reasonable return on their labor, they are designed to provide
control.
The court is going to find in Microsoft's favor.
Oddly enough I'm in favor of this because it will force a rethinking of copyrights.
