I worked PATTI in the round pen (again with her saddle on) ..... then,
since she was so laid back and calm I had Buddy hold her and I got on -
carefully. She stood perfectly still but started to shake (tremble) ..... I
cooed to her and rubbed her on her withers while Buddy cooed at her head. I
didn't do anything else but just sit there -- then I got off .... she still
stood perfectly still while I took off her bridle and put her halter back on.
Nice thing about PATTI ..... she'll stand perfectly still while you take off
her halter, drop it to the ground and there she stands "naked" until you slip
her bridle on - she never moves a muscle ...... same way from bridle to
halter. Guess I must have done something right with her .
Then we went back to the barn and PATTI got a bath (she was soooooooo
good!) ...... then X got a bath and a clip job.
There were a lot of flies in the barn so I put fly masks on all the
horses .... PATTI hadn't ever had one on -- I just went slow and easy with
her and after about 10 mintues of me "cooing" to her she put her head down
and let me slip the fly mask over her ears pretty as you please. PATTI
certainly has come a long way .... it's taken a long time but I honestly
think she trusts me now -- we are definately bonding and becoming comfortable
with each other. Makes me really feel good ...
