Well a few things have happened. First of all I pulled
everything apart again in anticipation of the aerial man
coming. I decided to use a different cable connected to
my TV. Actually, I could get a good picture on ABC before
I even plugged the cable into the wall socket. When I did
plug it in I got ghosting.
Another observation I made some time ago was that if I
tune my VCR into channel 7 and the TV into channel 1 (the
video channel), I get better teletext than if I bypass the
video (by pressing VCR/TV), and tuning the TV into 7.
I think the message here is that I am picking up VHF from
a bounce off neighbouring units.
Anyway, the ghosting didn't seem to be so bad on ABC
recently, not sure at what stage exactly. But in the
middle of this I decided to go to Mitre 10 and buy an
antennae socket, in case there was something wrong with
mine. Unfortunately I got the wrong one, which gave me
OK reception, but disabled everyone below me (according
to the antenna man). He put the old one back for me.
He also told me that the coax cables I had were really
bad, that I needed RG6, Beldon Time or something, from
Whiting Street, Artarmon. Anyway, he made me two cables
up for $20.
He told me the internal wiring was bad, and would be good
to replace. He also said that I could pick up Wollongong,
with a UHF antenna stuck on the roof of my balcony, and
fed inside, and he could attach a duplexer? diplexer?
so that I could get both my own aerial and the body
corporate one without having to switch between them, for
about $180, which I said I wanted to go ahead with so that
I wasn't dependent on the other units.
The SBS problem? In the garbage area the power cord is
meant to be plugged in but someone unplugged it!
The UHF antenna? Pointing roughly towards the ABC/SBS
tower, which is roughly West too! I think it is closer
to NorthWest myself.
The ghosting? One possibility is to stick both antennaes
on the transmitter side of this large metal structure on
our roof (I think the lift goes in there), to eliminate
any possible ghost from the Harbour Bridge.
My teletext reception now that I have an RG6 coax cable
connected to the internal aerial directly? Worse than
it was before.
Go figure. BFN. Paul.
