That's basically how the soviets prevented jamming of their fighter 
aircraft radar; crank up the power.  They were not supposed to turn on 
their radar to operating power until they were lined up on the active.  I 
remember something about it making toast of a rabbit that was on the side 
of the runway some ways up.
Nice tightly focused beam of microwaves, sounds like a long range rifle 
to me...  :-)
