MS got cute with their Windows Defender beta. Updates for it are now done
via Windows Update. There is still a manual update but Microsft did their
best to hide that (click the down arrow next to help , choose about
Windows Defender, check for Updates ). After this week, I decided it was
best to do away with Defender and the turn autoupdates off. It's a simple
matter of trust and it's a shame that Microsoft doesn't understand the
concept.
